conscientious objectors day

by Campaign ~ May 15th, 2012. Filed under: News.

International Conscientious Objectors’ Day started in the early 1980s, and in 1987 the United Nations Commission on Human Rights recognised “the right of everyone to have conscientious objection to military service as a legitimate exercise of the right of freedom, thought, and religion”.

Today conscience remembers those who have refused to kill, on behalf of their conscience.

conscience sees military taxation as an extension of military service where your taxes are being used for war and the preparations for war. Therefore we fight for the right of conscientious objectors to have the military part of their taxes that currently go towards war and the preparations for war go towards other forms of security instead.
