Do you live in Scotland?  Would you like the right of conscientious objection to military taxation to be enshrined in a new constitution for Scotland?  Please make the suggestion in the interactive public consultation!   https://constitutionforscotland.scot/

Anne McCullagh-DLyske, Coordinator of Conscience in Scotland, writes:

Dear Scottish supporters of Conscience,

In view of the upcoming Indyref2, a possible Constitution for an independent Scotland is presently under discussion. There is a dedicated website (Constitution For Scotland) which members of the electorate can visit.  It contains a new Model Constitution.  Members of the public can comment on it and suggest amendments:  https://constitutionforscotland.scot/

Please visit the website and recommend that a Peace Tax alternative to obligatory military contributions via non violent solution of conflict funds be offered to concerned citizens of conscience if and when requested.

This constitution is being written for the people by the people – so if we don’t make our voices heard now, we will only have ourselves to blame if this issue is not settled, at least in Scotland,  once and for all!

If we in Conscience could achieve this we would be witness and midwives to the birth of a truly humane and civilised new Scotland, arising from the ashes of our outmoded imperialist past.

We would be the first country on our beleaguered planet to offer its citizens complete enfranchisement of conscience, as ensconced in the UN Bill of Rights but rarely, if ever, upheld or maintained.

By enshrining in a new Constitution for Scotland the option of diverting the military part of our taxes into a Peace Tax fund, we could start funding the rebuilding of a better, saner, and kinder world.
