Meet our Conscience Education For Peace team

We were delighted when, early in 2021, Santiago Forero and Sarah Croft joined us as Volunteer Education Assistants.  Together with Karen Robinson, our Education Worker, they make up our Conscience Education For Peace team.  We are very grateful that they are continuing as members of the team in 2022.

‘We mustn’t continue strengthening war, either with our young people or economically’

Santiago Forero is a psychologist from Bogotá, Colombia. Over the last four years Santiago has been involved in the anti-militarist and non-violence movement in Colombia, as well as contributing to international networks such as Red Antimilitarista de América Latina y el Caribe (RAMALC) and War Resisters’ International (WRI).  He has served on the Editorial Committee at War Resisters League (WRL).

In his work for Conscience Education for Peace Santiago has researched and compiled the following series of information tables on the situation facing present-day conscientious objectors to military service in different parts of the world:

Conscience Table. Situation facing present-day Conscientious Objectors in Africa.

Conscience Table. Situation facing present-day Conscientious Objectors in America.

Conscience Table. Situation facing present-day Conscientious Objectors in Asia.

Conscience Table. Situation facing present-day Conscientious Objectors in Europe.

Conscience Table. Situation facing present-day Conscientious Objectors in Oceania.

These information tables then informed the development of the following factsheet:

Conscience Factsheet. Conscientious Objection. Situation Today Worldwide.

‘Small steps are better than no steps and together we will end violence’

Sarah Croft is a student based in Kent in the UK.  Sarah wrote: ‘While studying my Masters I have been exposed to the devastating impacts war and conflict has on everyday life. Living in the UK I have been very fortunate to not see violence growing up. As people of privilege, we should share the voice of the voiceless. I believe everyone has the right to live a life in which they do not live in fear’.

In her work for Conscience Education For Peace Sarah researched and wrote our first factsheet, Conscience Factsheet. Conscientious Objection during the First World War, and shared in the researching and writing of the following factsheets:

Conscience Factsheet. An Introduction to Conscientious Objection

Conscience Factsheet. Conscientious Objection during the Second World War

Conscience Factsheet. Military Spending in the United Kingdom

Karen Robinson is the Education Worker for Conscience, and is based in Sussex in the UK.  In her blog, Fund War No More, Karen shares news and reflections in the course of her work.  A member of the peace movement since the 1980’s, she wrote about her experiences and the people who inspired her here.  Previously Karen spent ten years working in Adult Education, teaching English.  Many of her students had fled war in their home countries.  She has teaching qualifications to work in Adult and Further Education and is an Associate Fellow in teaching and learning in Higher Education.  Karen coordinates the Conscience Education For Peace programme, working closely with the Volunteer Education Assistants.  She shares in the researching and writing of the factsheets, and edits and designs them.
