We at Conscience: TAXES FOR PEACE NOT WAR are dedicated to working towards a world where taxes are used to nurture peace, not pay for war. This October, we will attend the 17th International Conference on War Tax Resistance and Peace Tax Campaigns in Lübeck, Germany. But we need your help to get there.
Why this conference matters
In today’s world, where global conflicts continue to dominate headlines, the Peace Tax Movement remains steadfast in its mission to advocate for conscientious objection to military taxation (COMT). This conference is a crucial event for sharing ideas, building strategies, and strengthening our global network of peace advocates.
Held in Lübeck, a historic city that embodies the ideal of "Harmony at home and peace abroad," the conference will bring together peace tax campaigns from around the world. It’s an essential gathering for devising new approaches to our shared goals and supporting each other in our efforts to promote peace and justice over conflict.
Conscience has attended every conference since the first in 1986 and has organised three, most recently in Edinburgh at the end of 2019. We also attended the previous conference in Geneva in September 2022, which coincided with the UN Human Rights Council session where a resolution on conscientious objection to military service was discussed. Your support will ensure we can continue this important tradition.
Our goal
We aim to raise £800 to send two of our dedicated staff members to this important conference.
Here’s how the funds will be used:
Accommodation at Naturfreundehaus Priwall: £276 for two people
Subsistence Allowance: £204 for two people
Travel Costs: £160 for two people
If we can raise more, we can enable additional team members to participate. Any surplus funds will support the valuable work of Conscience and Peace Tax International (CPTI), including producing and distributing information on the outcomes of the conference to our supporters.
