Our programme

Conscience: Taxes For Peace Not War works for a world where taxes are used to nurture peace, not pay for war.  We campaign for legislative change so that those with a conscientious objection to war can opt to have the entire military part of their taxes spent on peaceful purposes.

Conscience Education For Peace programme

We have developed a new education programme, Conscience Education For Peace, to complement and inform our campaigning work.  This programme is aimed at adults, members of the public and potential supporters.  It presents basic information around conscientious objection to military taxation, and related issues, in a clear, simple way.

We are very grateful to have received a grant from Quaker Peace & Social Witness for our education programme.

We are planning to produce factsheets on the following topics:

  • Conscientious objection
    • What it is
    • When and how it started
  • Conscientious objection during the First World War
  • Conscientious objection during the Second World War
  • Conscientious objection worldwide
  • Military expenditure
    • In the UK – How much is the military budget? How is it defined?  What is not included?
    • Worldwide – How does the UK rank?
  • Alternative approaches to conflicts
    • Peacebuilding
    • Reconciliation
    • Many other approaches
  • Conscientious objection to military taxation (COMT)
